Speakers included Nick Besenick and myself talking hunting\/survival electronics, Dr Alberto Macias who provided an update on our Mearns Quail diet study being done by State University of Sonora and an update from AGFD on the Quail Festival.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-large wp-image-602\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saquailforever.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/DSC06137-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-602\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">An English Pointer sticks a Mearns Covey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div>-The second meeting will be <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1777310731\"><span class=\"aQJ\">14 Dec<\/span><\/span> as the 3rd <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1777310732\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Thursday<\/span><\/span> would be too close to Christmas.&nbsp; Sarah Gandaria who is a QF national employee working for AZ G&amp;F will present a proposal on Tombstone Ranch Property acquisition which is under consideration by QF national, a hunting ethics discussion led by Ron Walp and AZ G&amp;F update.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>-The <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1777310733\"><span class=\"aQJ\">18 Jan<\/span><\/span> meeting will include Josh Smith from US Fish and Wildlife Service who will discuss the Masked Bobwhite recovery project at Buenos Aires NWR in Southern AZ.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>-A reminder that chapter meeting are open to all, don\u2019t hesitate to bring friends.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>-If you have ideas or volunteers for other speakers please let me know.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><strong>Montezuma Quail Festival:<\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>-Brittany Oleson the AZ G&amp;F Wildlife Officer out of the Sonoita are is putting together an event the opening weekend of Mearns <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1777310734\"><span class=\"aQJ\">1-4PM<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1777310735\"><span class=\"aQJ\">9 Dec<\/span><\/span> at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Sonoita in partnership with the chapter.&nbsp; The chapter has paid to rent the hall.&nbsp; A flyer for the event is attached.&nbsp; Please come and bring friends.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-large wp-image-600\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saquailforever.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/DSC06094-1024x845.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-600\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Covering A point in S.E.AZ.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><strong>Desert Quail:<\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>-Desert quail hunting success has been a little better this year than last with some areas being fairly good.&nbsp; My personal The habitat looks good and the Tucson area is doing good on rainfall it did not all come at the right time.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><strong>Hog and Adobe Canyon access:<\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>-The homeowners and AZGFD are still working agreements that will prevent the FS from closing the access.&nbsp; Access is open at this time.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><strong>Volunteer opportunities:<\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>-Our banquet is planned <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1777310736\"><span class=\"aQJ\">3 Feb<\/span><\/span> at the Sonoita Fairgrounds.&nbsp; We will have our first banquet planning committee meeting <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1777310737\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Dec 6<\/span><\/span>.&nbsp; Please let me know if you can volunteer or can help with donations for the banquet.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>-Highway cleanup.&nbsp; Ron Walp will lead a highway cleanup on <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1777310738\"><span class=\"aQJ\">6 Dec.<\/span><\/span>&nbsp; We will meet at Hog Canyon road at <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1777310739\"><span class=\"aQJ\">9:00<\/span><\/span>.&nbsp; Afterward we will go to Wagon Wheel in Patagonia for breakfast.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>-US F&amp;W is looking for volunteers with dogs to \u201chaze\u201d released Masked Bobwhite Quail at Buenos Aires NWR.&nbsp; To date, there has been poor to no survival of pen raised birds released in the wild.&nbsp; The purpose of this effort is to haze released birds to instill fear of predators and increase their survival rate.&nbsp; Please contact Bill Radke at <a href=\"mailto:bill_radke@fws.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bill_radke@fws.gov<\/a> and Rebecca Chester at <a href=\"mailto:rebecca_chester@fws.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rebecca_chester@fws.gov<\/a> if you are able to help.&nbsp; Dates help is needed include Nov 11, 12, 15 &amp; 16 plus <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1777310740\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Dec 1<\/span><\/span>, 2, 5, 6, 9, 10, 13 &amp;14.&nbsp;
