Chapter Members enjoying some Dove Hunting<\/p><\/div>\n

A quick update to let folks know what is going on with the chapter in Southern AZ.\u00a0 It\u2019s still warm and our great monsoon season should wrap up soon.\u00a0 We have several volunteer opportunities as we start the new hunting year – let me know if your are able to help.\u00a0 We will be looking for more board members and banquet committee members.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
-Membership drive opportunity.\u00a0 We have been invited to participate in the Peppersauce Roundup 23 Sep<\/span><\/span> near Oracle.\u00a0 We would get a 10×10 space to set up a table to sell hats and handout membership info.\u00a0 Let me know if you can help.<\/div>\n
-Scaled Quail covey count.\u00a0 Wade Zarlingo from AGFD has scheduled the covey count for 30 Sep<\/span><\/span>\/1 Oct which is a delay of one day from the previously announced plan.\u00a0 The event will take place near Bonita northeast of Wilcox.\u00a0 More detail will be provided later but the general plan is camp Sat night, set up routes and then find and count birds Sun morning.\u00a0 The purpose of this effort is to assess the impact of AGFD habitat improvement in the area.\u00a0 This will be the third year we have helped with this effort.\u00a0 Volunteers are needed with dogs.\u00a0 To volunteer please contact Wade at WZarlingo@azgfd.gov<\/a> and cc me.<\/div>\n
-Desert Quail opener 6 Oct.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 We need volunteers to man check stations at Willow Springs and Freeman Roads 7 and 8 Oct<\/span><\/span> along with AGFD personnel.\u00a0 Please let me know if you are willing to help.<\/div>\n
-Habitat projects.\u00a0 Border 2 Fuels Reduction and Mearns Quail Habitat Improvement Project is tracking.\u00a0 We are still working on the White Mountain Mearns project proposal and not ready to commit to it yet.\u00a0 Our Mearns Diet study in Mexico is also progressing.<\/div>\n
-Hunting habitat.\u00a0 Both the areas for desert and mearns quail are looking great as monsoon winds down.\u00a0 Better desert quail hunting than last year may take some hunting pressure off mearns.<\/div>\n
-Sonoita fires.\u00a0 The areas around Sonoita hit with fires are looking great now after the monsoon rains.\u00a0 Except for the folks that lost homes, the fires have been good for habitat.<\/div>\n
-Hog and Adobe Canyon access.\u00a0 The homeowners and AGFD are still working agreements that will prevent the FS from closing the access.\u00a0 Access is open at this time.<\/div>\n
-Dove opener 1 Sep.\u00a0 Several chapter members enjoyed dove hunting with good results.\u00a0 The picture below is courtesy of Mike C.<\/div>\n
-Future Dates.\u00a0 In addition to the dates listed above our first chapter meeting is 16 Nov<\/span><\/span>, mearns opens 8 Dec<\/span><\/span>and 2018 banquet 3 Feb.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
