January 2, 2018 /
Happy New Year, I hope everyone had a good holiday period.
Chapter meetings:
-The 18 Jan meeting will include Bill Radke from US Fish and Wildlife Service who will discuss the Masked Bobwhite recovery project at Buenos Aires NWR in Southern AZ. Tom Sullivan will also bring us up to speed on our habitat projects. AZGFD Speaker is TBD.
-A reminder that chapter meeting are open to all, don’t hesitate to bring friends.
-If you have ideas or volunteers for other speakers please let me know.
Banquet:
-Banquet tickets for out 3 Feb prime rib dinner in Sonoita are selling fast and we are approaching half sold out. Dress for the event is casual. Getting tickets and renewing your membership could not be easier – use saquailforever.com/2017-dinner-and-auction/ then use “click here”. You can also make a donation to the chapter in the same portal. Ticket prices will increase after 15 Jan if we are not sold out. A rough plan to raffle and auction items is listed below. This is rough and subject to change. Expect more info on how to reserve seats prior to the event.
-We will have a slide show playing during the event similar to what we did last year and at the quail festival. If you have good pictures of dogs, chapter members, scenery or other things our members would enjoy please send them to me via email or bring them to our Jan meeting. I will include a few “dead bird” pictures but really don’t need any more of them.
Matt Russell:
-Matt is a chapter member who just donated two K9 first aid kits for our banquet. Unfortunately I have first hand knowledge of the need to carry first aid materials for our best friends. Matt’s kits are available at http://doubleaeroguides.com/1st-aid-k9-kit .
Mearns taxidermy:
-Penny Tureman in Patagonia is no longer doing mounts but she has a few for sale. Phone is 406.646.9232.
Future dates:
-11 Feb Quail Seasons Close, 13 Feb Highway Cleanup, 15 Feb Chapter Meeting Steak Out Sonoita and 24 Mar Youth Hunt
-We are always looking for more board members – we will elect a new slate next spring and have openings now.
Some sad news:
Jeff Hintz passed the following to me yesterday:
“This afternoon I received a very sad call from the Wetlaufer family informing me of the passing of our good friend Roger from a stroke last evening. To all of us, his passion for his shooting and hunting friends was obvious in every conversation and outing we all got to enjoy sharing with him. My one on one time with Roger was always filled with talks about the pride that his family and business had brought to his life. All of our thoughts and prayers at this time are with Ester, Roxann and his family in Iowa. I will do my best to communicate to all of you the future plans to commemorate his wonderful full life.”
Roger Wetlaufer is a member of our chapter. If I get further information, I will share it.
