SAQF Scaled Quail Count

Thanks again to the many volunteers that are getting this study off the ground. As you know the SRER has been used for cattle experiments for over 120 years. It’s exiting to be starting a study for quail , deer and all kinds of other small animals. These quail counts will give scientists a base line to start from when  measuring different types of habitat improvements.

Number of people volunteering and weather make these numbers very different, not comparable. October , 2023, we didn’t have many people and the weather was very hot…too hot to run our dogs very long. However, we reacted and decided for several reasons to have our count right after the quail season ended…good decision. Transects were re-layed out, which is another reason numbers aren’t relateable. 

We will be making changes [ improvements ] to our proceedures for next year’s count…please make a mental note to keep the week after quail season ends open to help us next year !
